Tori Ortman.

Head Coach

Biography:

Coach Tori was born and raised in Long Beach California. She grew up training under one of the best beach volleyball coaches in Huntington Beach, William Lovelace. She was recruited to play beach and indoor at Long Beach State and was there for one year before transferring and finishing out her collegiate volleyball career at CBU. There, she graduated with a BS in Kinesiology Sports Medicine and an MS in Kinesiology Exercise Science. In her time as a college athlete she spent two summers interning with FCA Volleyball in Huntington Beach, where she found her passion for mentoring, discipling, and coaching young girls.

Coach Ortman shares, "My college coach used to say 'Vision is Key,' and he was right. What he meant by this is that while our physical vision in the game is important it is our vision in life that matters most. What we see, how we react, and what we choose to pursue gives us the opportunity to exemplify Christ to everyone else watching. And it is our choice as believers to have vision that is Kingdom-focused. I believe coaching is a gift God has given me. But most importantly, I believe God has given me this gift so that I can use the sport of beach volleyball to cast a vision that will affect the Kingdom of God in great and mighty ways through the next generation of young women in our world. My vision for this program at Immanuel is to teach young girls not just how to pursue excellence in sport, but most importantly how to pursue Jesus every day by how they see and interact with the world and others around them. This way, when they graduate, they have vision that is far beyond what is immediately in front of them. Vision that sees others and seeks to show them the love of Jesus for years to come. Vision that affects eternity."

Tori has now been coaching both indoor and beach volleyball for the past 14 years. Her passion for coaching young girls and teaching them not just the fundamentals of beach volleyball but also life lessons grew throughout her early years of coaching. She then decided to pursue coaching as a full time career in 2018. Tori and her husband Tyler own and run Shorebreak Beach Volleyball Club full-time, where she is in charge of all programming for girls ages 7-18, managing their staff, and running all recruiting for potential college athletes. Together they have helped send 10 kids to play college beach and are looking forward to seeing where their upcoming senior class will commit to this summer.
